2011 Checkpoint Tracker National Championship

The 2011 Checkpoint Tracker National Championship race is only four days away and we are ready to get up to Kentucky and mix it up with the best teams from across the United States. Our team is currently ranked first in the Checkpoint Tracker Open Elite division and are looking to take home to point series championship for our division. Last year we took home the Pangea Adventure Racing open division point series title and are looking to follow it up with a national ranking.

We leave on Wednesday for a 14-hour drive to Kentucky. The race starts on Friday at 7am with a cutoff time of 1pm Saturday. There will be some live tracking of the race and we will update once we know where that can be found.

We will also be posting updates on our Facebook page.

Stay tuned...

Nocturnal Challenge 2011

AR Militia took third place overall in this year's installment of the ever grueling Nocturnal Challenge sponsored by Pangea Adventure Racing. Congrats to Green Paw Adventure Sports for obliterating the course and Nature Calls for taking second place. The big news for our team however was not the top-3 finish but the addition of a new team member, a girl. That's right, a girl. Her name is Sara Heuther and she is Matt's younger sister.

Sara raced a kick ass race and never complained even though she did get dumped on her bike when we tried to tow her. Halfway through the race, while the lightening was crashing, she actually said how much she was enjoying this kind of racing. Sara is no stranger to endurance sports, however, she has completed marathons and half iron mans in addition to being a national level collegiate pole vaulter.

Next up the team will be traveling to Nationals presented by Checkpoint Tracker which is to be held in the Land Between the Lakes, Kentucky. We are adding another new member for this race, Brett Heuther, Sara's husband. Hopefully Brett performs as well as his wife...

Atomic 2011 Race Results

AR Militia took 1st place in the three person open division in this year's installment of the Atomic Adventure Race in Dawsonville, Ga. The team ended up 10th overall in what was called by the race directors as the hardest Atomic course to date... and they weren't kidding, this race was grueling.

We are working on a race summary/recap and will have is posted shortly. We shot some video with our HD Hero cams during the race which came out pretty good and will get posted with our recap.

2011: Year of the Militia

Finally! The Atomic Adventure Race directors have announced the details for this year’s race. This year’s Atomic AR will be returning to Dawsonville, GA on May 14th.

The Atomic was 2010’s unicorn that we had in our scopes, but one wrong turn chased the majestic beast out of our grasp. The course was a challenging blast and we owe the Atomic a solid for a couple valuable lessons learned, for pushing us to new limits and for the taste of defeat that we needed to fuel our training. We’re grateful and we intend to pay back in full by destroying this year’s course.

In typical AR fashion the race directors will not provide all the race details or even a start location until the day before the race, but its probably safe to say that the race will again be starting in Amicalola Falls State Park at the base of the main falls, as for the rest of the race, your guess is as good as mine. We’re looking forward to our next bout with the Atomic; and we’ll be assaulting the course with a vengeance this year.

In the mean time we’ll be training and knocking out other local races. Pangea has their 2011 race calendar up with lots of races this winter and spring. Drop us a line if you want to join us for a race, ride or fun outdoors before Florida’s weather turns back into a humid inferno.

Here’s how the Atomic went for us last year... Militia Goes Atomic 2010
